Circulatory system Flashcards
Pulmonary
Relating to the lungs; often refers to the pulmonary arteries and veins that carry blood between the heart and lungs.
Valves
Structures in the heart that ensure unidirectional blood flow, preventing backflow between the heart chambers and to the arteries.
Left Ventricle
The chamber of the heart that pumps oxygenated blood to the body through the aorta.
Right Ventricle
The chamber of the heart that pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs for oxygenation via the pulmonary artery.
Right Atrium
The chamber of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood from the body through the superior and inferior vena cavae.
Double Circulatory System
blood flows through two separate circuits: the pulmonary circuit (to the lungs) and the systemic circuit (to the rest of the body), ensuring efficient oxygenation and nutrient transport.
