CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Flashcards
WHAT IS THE double circulatory system
blood travels through the heart twice on one complete journey around body in a pulmonary and systemtic circulation
function of the heart
pumps bloods to the different parts of the body
heart
hallow muscular organ known as cardic muscles that pumps blood around the body
what are two upper chambers of heart
atria
what two lower chamber of heart
ventricles
what seprate left hand side from right hand side
septum
what is function of septum
seperates between right and left side of the heart
to preventmixing 0xygenated blood and deoxygenated blood
function of valves
prevents its back flow
systemtic circulation
the left atrium recievs blood from the pulmonary veins which come from lungs
blood flows to the left ventricle through the bicuspid valve
blood on the left ventricle is pumped into the aorta which takes the blood around the body
pulmonary circulation
right atrium recieves blood from the rest of the of body arriving through the vena cava
blood flows to the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve
the right ventricle pumps blood into the pulmonary artery which takes it to the lungs
effect of excersise on heart rate
heart rate and stroke volume increases
more blood is pumped to the muscles
carrying more oxygen and glucose
for more aerobic respiration
to release more energy for the muscles to contract
and get rid of excess carbon dioxide
why people who carry out regular exercise have lower normal heart beats
because their heart muscle is stronger and have higher stroke volume
Execrsise lower blood pressure
effects of adrenaline hormone on heart rate
increases the heart rate so more blood is pumped to the muscles carrying more oxygen for more aerobic respiration to relese energy for muscle contraction and relaxtion
why walls of left ventricle are thicker than those of the right ventricle
causes of coronary heart disease
smoking
diet high in saturated fat raises blood cholesterol
hormone released during stress constrict blood vessel raise blood pressure
lack of execrise
h.b.p as heart has to work much harder to pump the blood making more strain on heart muscle
