Circulatory System Flashcards
Circulatory system
Heart, blood, blood vessels
Heart
Located in the middle lower part of the chest, slightly to the left
Cardiac muscle
Muscle that makes up the heart. Has 3 layers: pericardium, myocardium, and endocardium
Pericardium
Outer layer of cardiac muscle
Myocardium
Middle layer of cardiac muscle. Made of muscle
Endocardium
Inner membrane of cardiac muscle
Superior vena clava
Carries blood from the head, arms, neck, chest
Inferior vena clava
Carries blood from the legs, feet, abdomen, pelvis
How does blood get to the lungs? (6)
- Enters through superior/inferior vena clava
- Passes through right atrium
- To right ventricle
- Passes through pulmonary valve
- Through/out pulmonary artery
How does oxygenated blood get spread through rest of body? (6)
- From the lungs - enters through pulmonary vein
- To left atrium
- Then left ventricle
- Through aortic valve
- To aorta
- Then rest of body
Heart valve
Allows blood to flow in 1 direction
Triscupid valve
Between right atrium/ventricle. 3 cusps
Biscupid valve
Between left atrium/ventricle. 2 cusps
Blood vessels
Arteries, veins, and capillaries. They carry blood from the heart to the cells, and back again
Arteries
Carry blood away from heart
