Cells, Tissues, Organs, and Systems Flashcards
Anatomy
Structure of the body
Physiology
How structures of the body work, together or individually
Homeostasis
A stable internal environment in our bodies
Cell membrane (cell’s fortification)
Separates the inside of the cell from the outside environment
Cytoplasm (cell’s environment)
Fluid encased by cell membrane, contains organelles
Nucleus (cell’s brain)
Contains DNA, 46 chromosomes, and genes passed down from parents.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (cell’s pipe system)
Helps make, package, and transport proteins and fats. Can be smooth or rough.
Smooth ER - helps make and process lipids
Rough ER - Has ribosomes on its surface that help make and process proteins
Mitochondria (cell’s power plant)
Break down carbs and some duration lipids to produce energy (AKA molecule ATP)
Ribosomes (cell’s factories)
Translates RNA into proteins
Lysosome (cell’s stomach)
Vesicles filled with digestive protein absorb and break down things into recyclable pieces
Tissue
Group of cells with similar function
Organs
Group of tissue
Systems
Group of organs that work together to perform a specific function
