Circulatory, Respiratory, Digestive, Excretory Flashcards
Arteries
Large vessels that carry blood from the heart to the tissues of the body
Veins
A blood vessel that returns blood to the heart
Capillaries
- smallest blood vessel
- carries nutrients and oxygen to the tissues
- absorbs carbon dioxide and waste products
Valves
Flap of connective tissue between an atrium and a ventricle or vein that prevents back flow of blood
What causes blood pressure? What does it mean when you have high blood pressure?
- the force of blood on the arteries walls
Where is hemoglobin found?
Red blood cells
Two types of respiration
- Gas exchange
- cellular respiration
Where does oxygen diffuse into the blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out?
Alveoli (air sacs) then capillaries
Large intestine
- removes water from undigested food
What organ is blood filtered in?
Glomerulus; inside the kindey
Alveoli
Tiny scars within out lungs that allow carbon dioxide to move between the lungs and bloodstream
Villi
The folded, finger like, surfaces of the small intestine
What two process take place in the nephrons?
Filtration and absorption
Pulmonary Circulation
The right side of the heart which pumps blood from heart to lungs
Systemic Circulation
left side of the which pumps oxygen rich blood to the rest of the body
