Circulation Test Prep Flashcards
Placenta
exchanges oxygen, nutrients, CO2 and wastes between the mother and the fetus (done by diffusion)
Umbilical vein
carries oxygen, nutrients and rich blood from the placenta to the inferior cava of fetus
Ductus venosus
the attachment point of the umbilical vein to the inferior vena cava that allows oxygenated blood from the placenta to travel to the fetus
Foramen ovale
allows blood to bypass the non-functioning lungs
Ductus arteriosus
allows most of the blood from the right ventricle to bypass the fetus’s fluid-filled non-functioning lungs.
Umbilical arteries
carries deoxygenated blood to the placenta to be oxygenated and carries wastes to the placenta
how much water is determined in human body weight?
70%
red blood cells (erythrocytes)
transports oxygen formed bone marrow
white blood cells (leukocytes)
fights infections
If blood is allowed to sit in a test tube without clotting, it will divide into two main parts
55% plasma
45% formed elements
systolic blood pressure
pressure when the ventricles are contracting
diastolic blood pressure
pressure when the ventricles are relaxing
