Circulation Flashcards
Red blood cells
Haemoglobin to carry oxygen, no nucleus, disc shaped, made in the bone marrow.
White blood cells
Fight infections, produce antibodies, nucleus is present, no definite shape, less white blood cells than red blood cells.
Platelets
Blood clotting, no nucleus, fragments of cells, less platelets of red blood cells but more than white blood cells.
Functions of blood
Transport, defence and clotting.
Transport in blood
The transport of blood is red blood cells and plasma.
Three types of blood vessels
Arteries, veins and capillaries.
Arteries
Carry blood away from the heart.
Veins
Carry blood back to the heart.
Capillaries
Connect arteries and veins
Cardiac muscle
It doesn’t fatigue or tire
Four chambers in the heart
