Circualtory System Flashcards
Through which veins does deoxygenated blood enter the right atrium?
Superior vena cava and inferior vena cava
What do veins do?
Carry blood to the heart
What do arteries do?
Carry blood away from the heart
What structure must blood pass through before it enters the right ventricle?
The tricuspid valve
What is the atria?
The two upper chambers of the heart
What are the ventricles?
The two lower chambers of the heart
What is the bicuspid valve?
Located between the left atrium and left ventricle. Controls the flow of blood.
What is the tricuspid valve?
Located between the right atrium and right ventricle. Controls blood flow.
What is the pulmonary artery?
Brings deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs.
What are the pulmonary veins?
Blood vessels that transfer oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atria of the heart.
What is the superior vena cava?
Large vein that directs blood to the right atrium.
What is the location and function of the tricuspid valve?
Location: opening between right atrium and right ventricle
Function: prevents blood from moving from right ventricle into right atrium during ventricular contraction
What is the location and function of the pulmonary valve?
Location: entrance to pulmonary trunk
Function: prevents blood from moving from pulmonary trunk into right ventricle during ventricular relaxation
What is the location and function of the bicuspid valve?
Location: opening between left atrium and left ventricle
Function: prevents blood from moving from left ventricle into left atrium during ventricular contraction
What is the location and function of the aortic valve?
Location: entrance to aorta
Function: prevents blood from moving from aorta into left ventricle during ventricular relaxation
