Chronic inflammation Flashcards
Prolonged inflammation consisting of active inflammation and tissue destruction
Chronic inflammation
Cause of Chronic inflammation
- persistent microbial infection
- prolonged exposure to infection
- Autoimmune system
Cells involved in Chronic inflammation
- macrophage
- lymphocytes
collection of ephiteloid histocytes and are multinucleated giant cells
Granulomatous inflammation
prevent the spread of diseases
Epitheloid discocytes
Causes of Immune Cells
Mycobacterium, Fungi, Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitis, Foreign material, Sarcoidis, Silica
Involves regeneration of the parenchyma or replacement of damaged tissue with a scar if regeneration is not possible
Repair
Regeneration of cells combined with scarring and fibrosis
Healing
Process of healing
Induction of inflammatory process Act to contain damage Removal of infecting substance Start deposition of ECM Formation of new blood vessels Production of ECM, collagen tissue remodeling wound contracture increasing wound strength 2 months- 75% of skin regained
4 processes:
- formation of new blood vessels
- Proliferation of fibroblasts
- deposition of ECM
- Maturation and recognization of tissue and fibers
how many hours do process of scarring begins?
within 24 hours of onset of acute inflammation
in how many days do granulation tissue formed?
3-5 days
what are absent in week 2 in time frame of scarring
Edema and inflammatory cells
Healing by First intention, wound that has
- clean edges
- close approximation of margins
- minimal tissue disruption
act as scavengers
PNS
Granulation tissue composed of
- macrophage
- blood vessels
- fibroblast
Healing by 2nd intention:
- unclean edges
- extensive tissue disruption
- tissue necrosis
factors that may impair the process of wound healing:
- infection
- nutritional deficiency
- glucocorticoid therapy
- result in decrease fibrosis
unintentional reopening of the wound to pressure or torsion
dehiscence
decrease amount of blood available
poor perfusion
blockage of artery for blood supply to flow properly
amphelodenopathy
complications of wound healing:
- inadequate healing
- excessive scar formation
