AKA non-communicable diseases, these result from prolongation of acute illness, which may include periods of remission and exacerbation of signs and symptoms.

Name the 4 Health Risk Behaviors that cause much of the illness, suffering and early death r/t chronic diseases:
- Lack of exercise/physical activity
- Poor nutrition
- Tobacco use
- Drinking too much alcohol

How do you calculate Disability-Adjusted Life Year (DALY)?
DALY= YLL + YLD (sum of Years of Life Lost d/t premature mortality + Years Lost d/t Disability)
This measure is frequently used in economic cost utility analysis, incorporates the quality or desirability of a health state with the duration of survival
Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY)
This model uses a systematic approach to restructure medical care to create partnerships between health systems and communities to address concerns about the increase in chronic diseases.
Chronic Care Model (CCM)
The shared beliefs and attitudes of a group, shapes ideas of what constitutes illness and acceptable treatment.
