Liturgical Worship
A formal type of worship which contains set prayers, readings or rituals, usually in a church
Non-Liturgical Worship
More informal and has less structure, and the elements can be tailored to different types of services
Informal Worship
Focuses on the adoration of God and is not always carried out in a church
The Sacraments
A Christian rite (such as baptism or the Eucharist) that is believed to have been ordained by Christ and that is held to be a means of divine grace or to be a sign or symbol of a spiritual reality
Baptism
A ceremony in which a Christian is immersed in water before the church to publically symbolize their belief in Christ
Holy Communion (the eucharist)
the most important religious service in the Christian church, in which people share bread and wine as a symbol of the Last Supper and the death of Christ.
Private Worship
Informal and often takes place at home
Prayer
Communicating with God, either silently or through words of praise, thanksgiving or confession, or requests for God’s help
Pilgrimage
A journey made by a believer to a holy site for religious reasons, an act of devotion and worship
Festival
A day or period of celebration for religious reasons- Christmas/Easter
Church definitions
1- The holy people of God, and also called the body of Christ, among whom Christ is present and active
2- A building in which Christians worship
Mission
The calling of a religious organisation or individual to go out into the world and spread their faith
Evangelism
Spreading the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness
Pentecost
When the disciples received the holy spirit and spoke in different languages
The Alpha Course
Used as a way of opening Jesus to others through talks and discussions
Reconciliation
A sacrament in the Catholic Church; also restoring of harmony after relationship has broken down
Persecution
Hostility and ill treatment, especially because of race, political, or religious beliefs
Barnabus Fund
Sends financial support to Christians who are suffering persecution
CAFOD
Official catholic agency, help to increase access to clean water, education and healthcare
TEARFUND
Known as the Evangelical alliance relief fund- responds to disasters for example a famine
CHRISTIAN AID
Aims to encourage sustainable development stop poverty and provide emergency relief in developing countries

Infromal Prayer
An individual pertaining to their own circumstance
Lourdes
South-west France, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In 1858 a 14 year old peasant girl called Bernadette had 16 visions of Mary, who healed her
Iona
West coast of Scotland- a remote 6th century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Described as the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland. St Columba and 12 companions came here from Ireland in AD 563.
Infant baptism
Babies need to be baptised beacuse they enter the world with original sin. The child is then forgiven and enters the church
Believers baptism
For denominations that believe children are too young to understand. Instead adults are given the ceremony in a full immersion pool

Community internet cafe which provides clubs and training opportunities for those in need
Street Pastors
Work on the streets in communities to help care for vulnerable people
