- What evidence is there of Katniss’ feeling about her parents? Discuss her
relationships with both parents.
1.When Katniss father died this took a toll on Katniss mother and they both Katniss and her mother disconnected from each other because her mother pulled away and turns away from her, the aspect of a mother daughter relationship is lost because her mother is distrustful.Katniss is not forgiving of her mother, she is aggrieved and butter because she is”the parent” of the house.She loved her father, she looks up to him, he taught her his skills, he held their family together, she felt numb after his death but was thankful for the skills he taught he
- To what extent is Katniss’ past relationship with Peeta important to the story?
- Hugely because he was in love with her even before the games began, he was prepared to makes sacrifices( burning the bread on purpose to feed Katniss because she was poor and hungry), through them she is alive today, his bread was the turning point creating internal conflict, she owes him
Why does Katniss not trust Peeta when he squeezes her hand?
3.She doesn’t trust people so instead of thinking that the hand squeeze is a affectionate thing she thinks it is a strategy to suck up to her, her mind was on the game at the beginning of going onto the stage and she assumed Peeta was thinking that way too, she is afraid that he is fake, and that eventually they will die so why try and trust him
- What do we learn about Prim in this chapter?
4.Prim is described as sweet and tiny, breakable and delacate Prim is very reliable on people, she is very innocent, she doesn’t nessesarily understand what the hunger games is and the concept of what’s going to happen.She has a soft spot for animals and for saving them, she is calm and sad when she goes on stage for the hunger games but when Katniss volunteers instead she starts screaming it shows Prim and Katniss relationship is strong.
The crowd murmured when Prim’s name is called? Why do they not do the same
when Katniss volunteers to take her place?
They know that prim is vulnerable and young, they would rather have someone older and more experienced to be in the hunger games, they also assume and someone younger is going to have little chance of winning.They know Katniss more than prim, they have more confidence in Katniss and have respect towards her, they know Katniss knows how to hunt she is more experienced, she was the first volunteer in district 12, they admire her bravery.
How do the crowd show support for Katniss? Why is this
important?
- They do the three fingered salute so show that district 12 is with her that they are supporting her and respect her, the people make a way for her to reach prim After prims name being called, by not applauding when she take s prims place ,they take part using the boldest form of dissent, silent
What does Gale do when Katniss volunteers? Why is it significant?
- He nods, almost that he’s proud of her, Gale takes Prim who is clinging to Katniss, he supports and comforts Prim he also helps her up and says “up you go Catnip” he supports her and understands.
Discuss the significance of the dandelion?
- She saw the dandelion after he gave her the bread, and when she went into the forest and collected dandelions and had it with the bread Peeta gave her which gives her a feeling of hope and survival , dandelion remind Katniss of her father and the survival skills , floral dandelion represents gift to a loved one and a promise of total faithfulness. healing of emotional pain and physical pain .a message from Katniss father to Katniss in order” to get out of the woods” she has to go into the woods
