What is leading (leadership)?
Leadership is the ability to direct people and positively influence them, so that they follow and obey you
What is autocratic leadership?
-The manager makes all the decisions without employees input
-He gives orders and expects them to obey without question
-He uses his authority to get them to do what he wants
-He may use fear and threats to get his own way
Autocratic leadership evaluation
-Best avoided
-Workers resent being treated like this and will be unhappy and may resign
-May be appropriate in emergency or stressful situations
What is democratic leadership?
-Manager involves employees when making decisions, invited them to discuss issues
-Delegates work to employees cuz he trusts them
-Gets employees to go along with him by reasoning with them and explaining things to them
Democratic leadership evaluation
-Achieves better results than autocratic
-Employees like to be involved and listened to
-They will be happier and work harder for their manager
-More likely to show intrapreneurship
-Decision making takes longer
-Appropriate when employees are knowledgeable and manager wants to encourage team building
What is laissez faire leadership?
-Manager doesn’t interfere a lot
-Gives employee a goal to achieve within a certain time and leaves it up to the employee as how theywill achieveit
-Delegates a lot because he trusts them
-Gets them to go along with him by reasoning and explainning
Laissez faire evaluation
-Appropiate only when manager has highly trustworthy employees
-Some employees find it hard to cope without anyone looking over them
-Employees might not get work done on time
- They might rush to complete on time and make mistakes
-Suitable in businesses that rely heavily on employee creativity and innovation for success
What is delegation?
Delegation is when a manager assigns authority to an employee to carry out some task or project for him.
Gives the employee power to do some of hihs work for him
For delegation to acc work, whats required?
- responsible and trustworthy employees who can cope with the responsibility
-Good control system that immediately highlights any errors made by the employees that have been delegated to
-A manager who’s not afraid to delegate and willing to try it
Advantages of delegation
-Manager has more time to deal with more important issues and give attention to solving critical probs
-Work gets done faster saving business money and time
-Shows employees he respects and has faith in them,they feel more valued and are more likelt to stay
-They get trained on the job to be a future manager

Management involves a manager energising employees and providing appealing incentives so that theyll willingly co-operate and work harder in the business

They have ambition and want to get on in the business and want more responsible and challenging jobs
