Q

How does the Chinese practice of foot binding demonstrate the tightening of patriarchy in the Song dynasty?

A

Women had to tightly wrap their feet which could deform their feet as well as break their bones just so they could have their feet fit these beautifully decorated ballet shoes and dance in front of men. Men didn’t have to go through the pain of this but just women and it was viewed by Confucianism that they had to be in an inner quarter and tie their feet.
