• 80% total body chloride found in ECF
• Role in regulation of osmotic pressure & water balance (along with Na+)
• Normal serum values 100-106 mEq/L

• GI - most absorbed in intestines. Chloride produced mainly in stomach as hydrochloric acid.
• Kidneys - excreted & reabsorbed in kidneys
