How does chx work?
A
Dicatonic chx molecules adsorb onto oral structures and release at bacteria, levels over prolonged period

What are possible side effect from chx?
A
Taste alterations Staining of teeth, tongue and oral membranes Increased calculus formation Parotid gland swelling Mucosal redness, burning Sensitivity / allergy

What advice re. Chx?
A
No prolonged used over 2 weeks
Avoid foods which contribute to staining

When is use of chx indicated?
A
After surgery- perio/ jaw
Acute gingival or oro mucosal infections
Ulcers- causing pain
Disabled patients unable to brush effectively
