Reversible, dose-dependant anemia
Aplastic anemia
Chloramphenicol - spectrum & bacteriocidal/ - static
Broad spectrum, both bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal.
Streptogramins (2 drugs)
Quinupristin
Dalfopristin
Why is quinupristin and dalfopristin used together?
Act synergistically to inhibit different sites of the 50S subunit
Quinupristin - MOA
Prevents addition of new amino acids by inh aminoacyl tRNA synthesis
Dalfopristin - MOA
Blocks peptide bond formation by inh peptidyl transferase
Quinupristin-Dalfoprisitn - indications
Bacteremia, peritonitis, endocarditis, aortic graft inf by vancomycin-resistant bact.
Pneumonia, soft-tissue & skin inf
Quinupristin-dalfopristin - adverse effects
Infl of veins, arthralgia, myalgia, diarrhea, nausea
