Bronchiolitis
Lower respiratory tract infection that effects the bronchioles
S+S = wheezing / difficulty feeding / tachypnoea / dry persistent cough / grunting
Treatment = smoke free environment / drink fluids / keep air moist / paracetamol / Oxygen
Risk factors = recurrent apnoea
Croup
Inflammation of the larynx
S + S = onset over a few days / stridor / barking cough / PYREXIA / voice harsh
Treatments = take to hospital - dexamethasone
Risk Factors = nebuliser / URTI
Epiglottis
Inflammation of the epiglottis
S + S = sudden onset / continuous stridor / voice muffled / drooling secretions / toxic very ill
Treatment = hospital
Risk factors = smoking environment
Meningococcal meningitis S+S ( 8 )
Non blanching rash Muscle pain Severe headache Stiff neck Photophobia Drowsiness Cold hands and feet Tachypnoea Sensitive skin
Meningitis S+S for baby ( 5 )
Bulging fontanelle Refusal to feed Blotchy skin Floppy and lifeless Stiff body with jerky movements
Meningococcal meningitis
Accounts for more than half of meningitis cases
Mortality rate of 2 - 10 %
Rash caused by subcutaneous haemorrhage
More rapid development of the symptoms - the more serious the condition

Meningococcal Septicaemia
INFECTION OF THE BLOOD, MAY BE CAUSED BY THE SAME PATHOGENS AS MENINGITIS
