Diagnosing and treating children

- adults may not want to communicate but children may not be able to communicate: language skills, ability to self-reflect

Play therapy
develops a trusting relationship, aids communication, teach skills and strategies such as coping or problem solving
CBT
creates awareness of thinking styles
behaviour therapy
e.g., desensitisation to phobias or anxiety inducing situations, selective reinforcement
mindulness
creating interoceptive awareness, non-judgemental approach often integrated into cognitive and behavioural programmes
drug therapy
can be effective but need caution
family therapies
different therapies put different emphasis on the role and function of the family
