Describe MI pain?
- Central
- Radiates to neck, jaw, teeth, arms, back
- Severe
- Nausea, vomiting & sweating
Describe Pulmonary embolism pain?
- Similar to MI if embolus is central
- Pleuritic pain if embolus is peripheral
- Breathlessness/haemoptysis
- Haemodynamic collapse
Describe lung infection/ pneumothorax pain?
- Worse on breathing
- Associated with cough
Describe Pericardial pain?
- Mimic cardiac ischaemia & pleuritic pain
- Relieved sitting up & leaning forward
Describe Aortic dissection pain?
- “Tearing” pain
- Radiates to back
When can pleural friction rub be present?
- PE
- Infection
When can pericardial friction rub be present?
- Pericarditis
- Aortic dissection
Describe angina pain?
- Worse in cold/wind
- Induced by emotional stress/exercise
- Relieved by rest & GTN spray
Describe acute coronary syndrome?
- MI with ST segment elevation
- MI with only T wave inversion/ST segment depression
- Chest pain with ischaemic ST segment depression but no troponin increase (unstable angina)
- Sudden death due to coronary disease
What is the commonest cause of community acquired pneumonia?
Streptococcus pneumoniae
Is cardiac tamponade painful?
No
Where does gallstone pain radiate to?
Right shoulder
