Chemistry #6 - part 1 Flashcards
Increasing concentration
Increases number of solute particles per unit volume. This can be achieved by adding more particles.
This increases the frequency of collision and the rate of reaction.
Increasing pressure
Increases number of gas particles per unit volume. can be achieved by adding more particles or reducing the volume of the container
This increases the frequency of collision and the rate of reaction
Increasing temperatures
increases the kinetic energy of particles. This allows more particles to collide with enough energy to overcome activation
energy. Increasing temp
increases the freq of collisions as the particles are moving faster.
Increasing surface area.
more particles are exposed on the outside (fewer unexposed particles in the middle)
larger the SA, faster the reaction as there are more sides for particles to react with. This increases the FREQ of collisions and the rate of
reaction.
Catalysts
Catalysts provide an alternative pathway for the reaction, which has lower activation energy. This increases rate of reaction as more particles collide with enough energy to overcome activation
energy.
