Q
What are the basic assumptions of KMT?
A
Constant motion:
Gas particles are always moving in straight lines until they collide with something.
Negligible particle volume:
The volume occupied by the particles themselves is very small compared to the volume of the container.
No intermolecular forces:
Particles do not exert any attractive or repulsive forces on each other, except during collisions.
Elastic collisions:
When particles collide, no energy is lost; all kinetic energy is conserved.
Temperature dependence:
The average kinetic energy of the particles is directly related to the absolute temperature of the gas.
