chemistry Flashcards
Matter
anything that has a mass or takes up space
qualitative physical property
substance that is not measured and has no numerical value ex colour odour texture
quantitative physical property
substance that is measured and does have numerical value. ex temp height mass
physical change
change in property’s such as texture shape or state. the change is reversible
chemical change
change of substance into another. one or more substances can be created. not reversible
evidence of chemical change
colour change, precipitate, gas, odour, temp change
parts of atom
protons, neutrons, electrons
elements
particles in their simplest/smallest form. ex silver, gold.
compounds
made up of two or more elements. ex co2 h20
mechanical mixture
when you can see the different kinds of particles. ex lemonade with pulp, salad.
solution
when you cannot see the different kinds of particles. ex milk
atomic number
number of protons in an atom (top left)
atomic mass
mass listed on periodic table
families on periodic table
1- alkali metals 2-alkaline earth metals 17-halogens 18-noble gases
ionic compound
metal and non metal. ionic bond. trade the electrons
