Chemical Coordination In Plants Flashcards
Whats tropism?
The growth response of a plant to a directional stimulus.
If the growth response is towards the direction of the stimulus, then it’s a positive tropism.
If the growth response is away from the direction of the stimulus, then it’s a negative tropism.
Whats phototropism?
The growth response of an organism in response to light stimulus.
Shoots are positive phototropism.
Roots are negative phototropism.
Whats geotropism?
The growth response of a plant in response to gravity pulling on it.
Shoots are negative geotropism.
Roots are positive geotropism.
Whats a coleoptiles?
This is a protective sheath that covers the first leaves of a cereal seeding. It protects the delicate leaves as the shoot emerges through the soil.
Whats auxin?
A plant hormone that plays a role in coordination and behaviour?
