Chemical Coordination Flashcards
Pituitary gland is located in a Boni cavity called
Sella tursica and attached to a stalk to hypothalamus
Parts of pituitary gland and explain
Divided into
1) adenohypophysis
Consists of Pars distilis(anterior pituitary)and Pars intermedia
and 2) neurohypophysis (pars nervosa
Hormones of Pars distilis or anterior pituitary
Growth hormone - gigantism and dwarfism
Acromegaly (disfigurement of face)
Prolactin - growth of mamary gland and formation of milk in them
Thyroid stimulating hormone - synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones from thyroid gland
Adenocorticotropic hormone - synthesis and secretion of steroid hormones called glucocorticoid from adrenal cortex
Luteinizing hormone - in males synthesis and secretion of hormones called androgens from testis
In female induce ovulation of full mature follicles graphian follicles and maintain the Corpus luteum formed from the reminence of graph and follicles after the ovulation
Follicle stimulating hormone-in males regulates spermato genesis with androgens
Growth and development of Ovarion follicles in females
Hormones of Pars intermediate
Melanocytes stimulating hormone
Acts on melanocytes(Melanie containing cells) and regulate pigmentation of the skin
Hormones of neuro hyperphysis also known as pars nervosa
Oxytocin - acts on smooth muscles of our body and stimulate their contraction
in females its stimulus a vigorous contraction of uterus at the time of childbirth and milk ejection from memory gland
Vasopressin(ADH) -
Mainly act at the kidney and stimulate resoption of water and electrolytes by the distal tubules and their by reduces loss of water through urine(diuresis) hands it is also called anti diuretic hormone
Diabetes insipidus
Water loss and dehydration due to diminished ability of kidney to conserve water
