Chemical composition Flashcards
1
Q
Mol= how many particles?
A
6.022x10^23 particles (atoms, molecules)
2
Q
1 mol= ?
A
1mol=molar mass/atomic mass (if compound, add all of them up)
3
Q
1amu in g?
A
Same number just different units
4
Q
Mass–> moles
A
1 mol/molar mass (g)
5
Q
Moles –> # of particles
A
6.02x10^23/1mol
6
Q
volume of gas (stp) –> moles
A
1 mol/22.4L
7
Q
Empirical Formula definition
A
Relative # of atoms of each element in a compound
8
Q
Molecular formula definition
A
Actual# of atoms of each element (*always a whole number/multiple of the empirical formula)
9
Q
How to find empirical formula X:Y:Z?
A
Need mass (g) and % composition.
Percent composition/molar mass then put into ration X:Y:Z. Multiply each number by another number til it’s a whole number ratio
