Atomic stoof Flashcards
Atomic #=
of protons
Cation
Pawsitive charge (lose electrons to gain + charge)
Anion
Negative charge (onions are bad), gain electrons to lose charge and become negative
Protons=
atomic number
Neutrons=
atomic mass-atomic number
Electrons=
protons = electrons in neutral atom
How to find orbital number
Period # <—–>
What are the shapes of orbitals?
S,P,D, and F
How many electrons in last orbital level?
Group # (1A,2A,7A)
equation of max amount of electrons in a level?
Ne=2n(number of levels)^2
e.g 2x2^2=8electrons max and 2x5^2=50 electrons max
S has how many orbitals, shells, and subshells
1 orbital and N=1 so 2e. Can hold 2e electrons outer shell
P has how many orbitals
3 orbitals, n=2 so 6e max. Can hold 8e electrons in outer shell
D has how many orbitals
5 orbitals, n=3 so 10e max. Can hold 18e in outer shell
F has how many orbitals
7 orbitals, n=4 so 14e max. Can hold 32e in outer shell
Ionic compounds composition
Cations (+ charge) + Anions (-charge). Charges must = each other bc they charges must = 0 in neutral molecules
