15
Q

How can you make a pure dry sample of a given solube salt (crystalisation)

A

Gently warn the dilute acud using a bunsen burner then turn iff the bunsen burner. Add the insolube base to the acid gradually until nonmore reacts. All acid is nutrialised if excess solid sinks to bottom. Then filter out excess solid to get salt solution. To get pure dolid crystals of salt use an electric heater to evaporate some of the water. Crystals of salt should be formed. This is called crystalisation.

16
Q

What does reactivity series do

A

List metals in order of their reactivity compared to other substances

17
Q

What does the position of a metal determine in the reactivity series

A

Higher a metal is the more reactive it is. Vice versa

18
Q

How can you find reacticity of a metal

A

Measuring the temperature change of the reaction with an acud or water over a set period of time

19
Q

When metal reacts with acids what is formed

A

Acid+metal–>salt+hydrogen

20
Q

What do you get when metal reacts with water

A

Metal+water–>metal hydroxide+hydrogen

21
Q

What is gain of oxygen called

A

Oxidation

22
Q

What is loss of oxygen called

A

Reduction

23
Q

How do metals that are higher than catbon in the reactivity series get extracted

A

Extractes using electrolysis

24
Q

How do metals lower than carbon in the reactivity series have to be extracted

A

They have to be extracted by reduction using carbon

25
Q

What is loss of ekectrons called

A

Oxidation

26
Q

What is a gain of electrons called

A

Reduction

27
Q

What is redox

A

REDuction and OXidation at the same time

28
Q

How will different reactive metals displace eachother

A

More reactive metals will displace less reactive metals from its compound

29
Q

If you put iron in copper sulfate what will happen

A

Iron (more reactive metal) will replace itself for copper (less reactive metal) in the compound

30
Q

What is purity of a substance

A

Only contains one compound or element throughout

31
Q

What is combustion

A

Fuel is burned and reacts with oxygen to release energy
