A

1627 - Five knights case. 5 people were put on trial for refusing to pay ship money. Appealed with Haebius Corpus, was a debate over weather the king could imprison without just cause, verdict sided with Charles. Many feared the king was encroaching on the rights of the people and becoming a tyrant

1627 - Failure of the La Rochelle raid. Parliament angered at humiliating defeat due to incompetence. 7800 departed, 3000 survived. Forced Charles to call the 1628 parliament
