characteristics of living organisms (Yr9) Flashcards
What does MRS H GREN stand for?
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Homeostasis, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition
What is Excretion?
Excretion is the process of removing wastes and excess water from the body
What is Homeostasis?
Homeostasis, is a self-regulating process by which biological systems maintain stability while adjusting to changing external conditions
What is Growth?
Growth refers to the increase in mass and size of a body or organs
What is Movement?
The process or the state of changing place or position of the body or a body part from one position to another is called movement
What is Respiration in Humans and Animals?
Respiration in animals such as humans occurs with the help of the lungs. The animals take oxygen from the air by using their lungs that send the usable oxygen to the cells of the animals to break down the taken food to obtain the energy. The animals finally release carbon dioxide
What is Respiration in Plants?
The process of respiration in plants involves using the sugars produced during photosynthesis plus oxygen to produce energy for plant growth
What is Sensitivity?
Sensitivity refers to the way organisms respond to their environment. All organisms are able to sense changes in their environment and will respond accordingly
What is Reproduction?
Reproduction is the creation of a living thing from an existing organism.
What is Nutrition?
Nutrition is the process of taking in food and converting it into energy and other vital nutrients required for life. The process by which living things get or make food. While plants make their own food, animals get it by feeding on plants or other animals.
