What is the definition of addiction?
The NHS definition of addiction is not having control overdoing taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you. The PPS definition of addiction is defined as a psychological and/or physiological dependency on a particular substance or event.

Salience – when an addictive activity has become the most important thing within an individuals life
Mood modification when the individual engages in their addictive behaviour they experience a change in their mood like a high or a buzz
Tolerance - as time goes on an individual will need more of a drug or behaviour to achieve the same effects as they have built up a tolerance to it
Withdrawal symptoms – if the behaviour is stopped then the individual will experience withdrawal symptoms
Conflict - addicts will often experience conflicts with themselves and family and friends by compromising their job or relationships to engage in addictive behaviour
