Chapter One: Structure and Function Pt.2 Flashcards
What are the cells of the nervous system?
Neurons (Nerve Cells) and Glial Cells (Glia)
What are the 4 principle divisions of the neuron?
- Input Zone
- Integration Zone
- Conduction Zone
- Output Zone
What are the 4 types (shapes) of Neurons?
Multipolar
Unipolar
Bipolar
Interneurons
What are the 2 types of embedded proteins found on a neuron? Can you describe them?
Channel Protein and Signal proteins
A channel protein is where molecules can directly pass to go into the cell (ions)
A signal protein sends a signal to the interior of the protein when a molecule binds to the exterior of the membrane
What is the circuit that neural impulses follow?
- Presynaptic membrane
- Synaptic cleft
- Postsynaptic membrane
What is included in the Grey matter?
Cell bodies, dendrites, terminals, and unmyelinated axons
What is included in the white matter?
Myelin , Axons
Clusters of cell bodies are referred to as in different parts of the nervous system?
Nuclei in the CNS
Ganglia in the PNS
Bundles of axons are referred to as
what in the different part of the nervous system?
Tracts in the CNS
Nerves in the PNS
What is the best way to remember Afferent and Efferent signaling?
A is for arrive so it sends sensory information TO the brain
E is for exit so it sends motor information FROM the brain
