What signs and symptoms accumulate with psoriasis vulgaris?
Fast acting mitosis of skin cells, inflammation of dermal papillae, patchy skin lesions
What is psoriasis vulgaris?
Build up of keratinocytes in the stratum corneum leading to patchy skin lesions
What are spots with extra pigmentation due to increased melanin but not an increase in melanocytes?
Freckles
What is vitiligo?
Patches of skin that lack melanocytes
What is the cause of vitiligo?
Unknown, but it associated with other types of diseases which means there could be another link
What are locations of discoloration due to proliferation of melanocytes?
Moles
What is another term for moles?
Naevi
What occurs when melanocytes become extremely mitotic and invade the dermis?
Malignant melanoma
What occurs when melanocytes fail to produce melanin?
Albinism
What causes psoriasis vulgaris?
Accelerated keratinocyte life cycle (1 week) due to fast mitosis leading to their accumulation in the stratum corneum
What part of the dermis becomes inflamed in psoriasis vulgaris?
Dermal papillae
What causes freckles?
Increase in melanin products in certain locations without an increase in melanocyte numbers
