What is physical sensation?
The sights and sounds we perceive.
Ex: Snow is white/fluffy.
What are the 3 basic elements of the conscious experience?
Physical Sensation, feelings, and images.
What are feelings?
Likes and dislikes.
Ex: Snow makes me happy.
What are images?
Memories and past experiences.
Ex: Snow reminds me of when I broke my leg sledding.
What are the 3 levels of consciousness?
Conscious, preconscious, and unconscious.
What are the 4 areas of specialization?
Clinical, school, social, and personality.
What is the clinical area of specialization?
Diagnosing and treating abnormal behavior.
Ex: Schizophrenia
What is the school area of specialization?
Focuses on singular students and their needs. Work with teachers/students 1 on 1 to improve things.
Ex: Bullying prevention
What is the social area of specialization?
Your behavior around others.
Ex: Bystander effect, conformity, first impressions.
What is the personality area of specialization?
Who you are.
Ex: Extroverts vs Introverts
What is an independent variable?
What you change.
Ex: Fish food used
What is a dependent variable?
The results of the independent variable, what you measure.
Ex: The length that fish grow when given certain food.
What is the experimental group?
They receive the Independent variable/treatment.
What is the control group?
They do not receive the Independent variable/treatment. Sometimes get a placebo.
What is positive correlation?
The 2 lines go in same direction.
