What is consciousness?
Awareness of our external and internal environment, enabled by our senses
What are preconscious thoughts?
Information not currently in awareness but readily available.
What are unconscious thoughts?
Knowledge not available to our awareness
What does repression mean?
Unconsciously rejected thoughts
What does suppression mean?
Deliberately rejected thoughts
What are the benefits of sleep? (4)
- Rejuvenates the body
- Reduces stress
- Consolidates learning and memories
- Restores everything we used during the day
What is the circadian rhythm?
The body’s natural 24 hour cycle that regulates bodily functions and sleep
What is melatonin?
Sleep hormone, produced by the pineal gland
What is the sleep cycle?
Four stages of non REM sleep and one stage of REM sleep
What is REM rebound?
The ability to catch up on missed sleep by spending more time in REM sleep in subsequent sessions
What is sleep debt?
the difference between the amount of sleep you should be getting and the amount you actually do

What is the difference between manifest and latent content?
Manifest is what you remember about a dream.
Latent is what the dream was actually about

Telepathic = communicate with others
Precognitive = appear to predict the future
Clairvoyant = psychic connection to object or event

An altered state of consciousness in which people are highly suggestible
