Internal conflict between different forces or aspects of the self/ psyche (the id, ego and superego) and the defences and distortions this may involve.
Note: These aspects may conflict: sexual desire (the pleasure drive of the id), fear of punishment (the concern of the ego for the consequences of reality) or by guilt that is wrong (the introjected inhibitions of the superego). Psychodynamics refers to the conflict between these aspects and the different ways in which this may be played out.
