A term used in evolutionary psychology to explain the evolution of behaviour benefiting others who are not kin and where the altruist (a person unselfishly concerned for or devoted to the welfare of others) benefits directly.
Note: In situations where the altruistic act is repaid later, this is known as RECIPROCAL ALTRUISM or direct reciprocity.
