- Social intelligence
– the ability to communicate and relate effectively to others.

– the ability to recognize our own emotions and the emotions of others, and behave in ways that have a positive impact on how others feel.

– how well we communicate when interacting with others

– how well we relate to and treat others
- Passive listening
– hearing the words with our ears, but mot thinking about those words with our mind because our mind is somewhere else

– making an effortful attempt to focus full attention on the speaker’s message.

– relationship involves intense physical arousal and passion; attention focused on partner’s appearance most
- Impulsivity:
partners can quickly “fall into” love
- Intense emotions
- a surge of chemicals are released in the body and brain
- Idealism
- the partners perceive each other and the relationship as being “perfect”
- Attachment and dependency
– the lovers feel insecure without each other and can’t bear being separated.
- Possessiveness and jealousy
- each lover feels that he or she has exclusive rights to the partner and jealous of anyone else who interacts with the partner.
