Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Self actualization -need to fulfill potential, to have meaningful goals
Esteem- need for confidence, sense of confidence, self-esteem, and esteem others
Belongingness -need to belong, affiliate, to love and be loved
Safety- need for security, comfort, tranquility, freedom from fear
Biological- need of food, water, oxygen, rest
Self Awareness
Reflect on what you are learning and reflect on yourself.
A.k.a. introspection – it involves turning inward to gain deeper self awareness and understanding of who you are, what you are doing, and where you are going?
Two forms of self-awareness
Self monitoring and self assessment
Self-monitoring
Check themselves -they check what they are doing and remain aware of whether they are doing it effectively and to the best of that ability.
Self-assessment
The process of reflecting on and evaluating your personal characteristics.

- Get to every class
- go to every class on time
- get organized
- get in the right position- front of the room, sit upright, sit with a motivated classmate
- Get in the right frame of mind

- Don’t let go your pen or keyboard

- get the textbook required for your course as soon as possible and get your reading assignments done on time
- Read with the right equipment – pen , pencil, or keyboard, have a Dictionary nearby, check glossary in the back of the book.

- Finish each of your reading sessions with a short review braided
