Chapter 9 Flashcards
One group post test only design
A dependent variable is measured for one group of participants following a treatment
Ex: professor
Limitation: lacks comparison or control group
One group pretest post test
The same dependent variable is measured in one group of participants before (pretest) and after ( post test) a treatment is administered
Non equivalent control group post test
A dependent variable is measure following a treatment in one group and also in a non equivalent group that does not receive the treatment
Ex: class course new teaching method
Limitation: no random assignment
Non equivalent control group pretest post test
A dependent variable is measured in one group of participants before (pre test ) and after (post test) a treatment and that same dependent variable is also measured at pretest and post test in another non equivalent control group that does not receive the treatment
Developmental designs
- Longitudinal design
- cross sectional design
Longitudinal design
Study changes across the life span by observing the same participants at different points in time and measuring the same dependent variable each time
Cross sectional design
Participants are grouped by their age and participant characteristics are measured in each age group
Single case designs
Reversal
Multiple baseline
Changing criterion
Reversal design
A single participant is observed before ( A) during (B) and after (A) a treatment or manipulation
A>B>A
Multiple baseline design
A treatment is successively administered over time to different participants for different behaviors or in different settings
Changing criterion design
A baseline phase is followed by a successive treatment phases in which some criterion or target level of behavior is changed from one treatment phase to the next
-the participants must need the criterion of one treatment phase before the next treatment is administered
