Near core and far periphery is urbanizing faster than old core.
What are some changes that have happened in old core cities?
Many people moved into suburbs after the war but people are moving back into the city. Many people are renovating old houses.
What is gentrification?
the process of buying and renovating older homes in lower income neighbourhoods.
What kinds of changes have occurred in new core, near core and far periphery cities?
The population is growing faster that the infrastructure and economy. This causes overubanization and squatter settlements.
What are the economic problems for urbanization of old core countries?
Fiscal Squeeze (not enough tax money to pay for things), increase of taxes and less manufacturing centers and more service centers.
What are the social problems for urbanization of old core countries?
The cycle of poverty, rent is increasing faster than wages, increase in homelessness.
What are the environmental problems for urbanization of old core countries?
lack of rapid transit (traffic), pollution, heat island effect, landfills.
What are the economic problems for urbanization of non old core countries?
migrants end up working low paying jobs, child labour, large income gap.
What are the social problems for urbanization of non old core countries?
Squatter settlements, homes lack toilets, clean water is very expensive.
What are the environmental problems for urbanization of non old core countries?
poor are usually most effected by natural disasters. Air pollution is worse in these countries. No safe water. Sewage has no where to go so is everywhere.

The idea of planning to maximize collective happiness over monetary gain.
