Free trade zones, bigger better attractions, high skilled labour, westernization, invested in a stable economy.
What is globalization?
The increase in global interdependence.
What are some negative reactions to globalization?
Hurts the environment, destroys cultures, increases the income gap.

What is sustainability?
Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future.
Is Dubai sustainable?
No they use too much water and energy.
Describe the problem with the mountain pine beetle.
Due to climate change they have a longer mating season. This means more of them and they are destroying forests by eating all of the pine trees.
What is the expansionist world view?
that science and tech can control nature for human benefit. Exploits nature with the belief that tech will fix it eventually.
What is the ecological world view?
That we should stop living in cities and try to return nature to how it originally was.
What is modern environmentalism?
When large companies go green to sell more of their products.
What is the spaceship earth concept?
That we have limited resources and that Earth is the only livable place for humanity.
What is the Gaia hypothesis?
that the earth is self regulating and we are messing it up.
What is the limits to growth world view?
that the earths population will eventually exceed its carrying capacity.
What is the cornucopian world view?
that tech will figure it out
What is sustainable development? Explain the Mayans.
Basically the same as sustainable growth. The Mayans only planted corn and eventually died off because their population grew faster than their food supply.
