Chapter 9 Flashcards
PSA Block
Posterior superior alveolar
- Maxillary molars
- 28% of the time MB root of the max 1st molar is not anesthetized
- Buccal periodontium and gingiva of maxillary molars and the buccal mucosa and upper lip
- Height of maxillary mucobuccal fold
MSA block
Middle superior alveolar
-Premolars and MB root of max 1st molars
- Buccal periodontium and gingiva of premolars and buccal mucosa and upper lip
ASA block
Anterior superior alveolar
- Maxillary anteriors
- Labial periodontium and gingiva of anesthetized teeth and labial mucosa and upper lip
IO block
- Nerves: IO, ASA, PSA, Lateral nasal, superior labial
- Max anterior and premolars
- Upper lip, side of the nose, lower eyelid
- Height of the mucobuccal fold, superior to the apices of the max 1st premolar
GP Block
Greater palatine
- doesn’t anesthetize any teeth
- Posterior hard palate and gingiva ipsilateral to the maxillary posterior teeth
Site: Palatal tissue anterior to the greater palatine foramen
NP block
Nasopalatine
- No teeth
- Anterior hard palate and gingiva of max anteriors bilaterally
Site: palatal tissue lateral to incisive papilla
IA block
IA, Mental, incisive nerve, lingual
- Mandibular teeth to the midline
- Lingual periodontium and gingiva to the midline: Facial periodontium and gingiva of premolars and anteriors to the midline; lower lip, anterior 2/3 of the tongue; and floor of the mouth to the midline
- mandibular tissue medial to the ramus, 6-10 mm superior to the mandibular occlusal plane
Buccal block
Buccal nerve
- no teeth
- buccal periodontium and gingiva of mandibular molars
site; distal and buccal to the most distal molar
Mental Block
Mental nerve
- no teeth
- facial periodontia and gingiva of premolars to the midline, lower lip and skin of the chin
Site: anterior to mental foramen at the depth of the mandibular mucobuccal fold
Incisive Block
Mental and incisive nerve
- Premolars to the midline
- Facial periodontium and gingiva; lower lip and skin of the chin
Site: Anterior to the mental foramen at the depth of the mandibular mucobuccal fold
Gow Gates Block
Nerves: IA, lingual, long buccal, mental, Incisive
- Mandibular teeth to the midline
facial and lingual periodontium, lower lip, anterior 2/3 of tongue, skin over zygomatic bone, mylohyoid
-buccal mucosa on the medial surface of the mandibular ramus, just distal to the height of the mesiolingual cusp of the maxillary second molar
