Chapter 10 Flashcards
Vessels
A system of channels, parallel to the blood vessels.
lymph from the tissues drains into the vessels,
lymph flows into the node by
multiple afferent vessels
Lymph flows out by
a single efferent vessel
Nodes
Bean-shaped clusters along the vessels, filters out the toxins that the lymph carriers, where lymphocytes are contained and produced.
Ducts
The vessels converge into larger ducts which empty into the venous drainage of the vascular system.
2 ducts
Lymphatic and thoracic
Tonsils
Mass of tissue that contains the lymphocytes that remove the toxins.
Occipital lymph nodes
Paired at the back of the head
Facial lymph nodes
Along the facial vein
drains the skin and the structures of the face
Posterior auricular, anterior auricular, and superficial parotid lymph nodes
Drain the external ear, lacrimal glands, and adjacent regions of the face and scalp
- empty into the deep cervical nodes
Submental nodes
under the chin
- drains the lower lip, mand incisors both sides of the chin, floor of the mouth, and apex of the tongue
Deep cervial nodes
“toilet bowl”
Submandibular nodes
under the mandible
- drains all of the teeth accept mand. incisors(submental) and maxillary 3rds
External jugular nodes
Along the external jugular vein
Anterior jugular nodes
Along the anterior jugular vein, superficial to the SCM
