Adjust to an Environment in Which the Deceased (Substance) is Missing – The counselor has to help the patient restructure her/his worldview to honor the fact that the previous relationship with the substance is dead. In doing this, a new and realistic story of nonuse must be developed to take the place of the old story of use.
