Explain surrender and compliance

A

o Surrender is a factor in getting sober
o Surrender occurs when clients accept reality unconsciously.
o AA members say when they realized that to get sober, they needed to accept life on life’s terms.
o Compliance on the other hand… is accepting reality on a conscious level but not on an unconscious level.
o Compliance usually results in later use.

o Internet brings recovery apps and 12-step chat rooms to an entirely new dimension to recovery support.

A

Jack Trimpey developed an extensive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy group…is now known as SMART RECOVERY – provides information about self-recovery thought addictive voice recognition technique (AVRT) which helps pt recovery without the use of groups, shrinks, or rehab.
 The founder believes not to congregate with other addicts who foster that crippling dependent belief. He believes the addictive voice is what causes addiction, not a disease process

What is women for Sobriety?

A

Address issues for women struggling form alcoholism through the use of a support network
 Based on positive thinking, metaphysics, meditation, group dynamics and pursuit of health
 Based on 13 Affirmations for member to say each morning and evening.
 Sole purpose is to help women recover from problem drinking through connecting with others and WFS believes that many women use ETOH to combat stress, isolation and loneliness.
 Not affiliated with AA
 Recommends total abstinence.

What is the Secular Organizations for Recovery?

A

 Developed by Jim Christopher and he wanted sobriety through personal responsibility and reliance on self.
 Does not believe a higher power is compatible with recent research.
 This approach is an alternative for those not comfortable with Spirituality
 Views supporting other alcoholics and addicts as very important.
 This was considered an approved alternative to AA by State of California in 1987

What is Moderation Management ?

A

 For many drinkers is a 1st step in exploring drinking patterns.
 Recommends those concerned about their drinking to cut back or discontinue all together.
 Believes addiction is a learn behavior / habit and not a disease.
 Encourages members to take responsibility for their recovery, help other and by doing so they help themselves.
 Treat one another with respect and dignity.
