Q

What are the policies for door closure and arming?

A

8.2.2
Closing and Arming of Doors
Whenever possible all doors should be closed at STD-3 (Ready to Go) in anticipation of either an immediate push back or a gate hold for an EOBT. This also gives operational flexibility should an earlier ATC become available. It is not necessary to wait for the receipt of an ATC Airways clearance to start engines or pushback.

The Purser shall request the Commander’s permission to close the last cabin door, either directly or via the interphone system. Permission is only required to close the last cabin door.

The Commander or First Officer shall advise the Purser: “Cleared to close doors”.

Once all doors and windows are closed and the area surrounding the aircraft is confirmed clear from all equipment, the Commander should advise the Purser to arm the slides as per the FCOM.
