Chapter 8.2 Ground handling Flashcards
Calculation of final fuel, when there is a change of ZFW what is the procedure?
8.2.1
Crews are requested to use the “ZFW Change” correction figures shown on the OFP when calculating revised T/O fuel due to change in ZFW. As a general rule, no new OFP will be produced for ZFW changes that are less than 2.0 tons. Commanders may request a new OFP, at their discretion, if the ZFW changes by 2.0 tons or more. If required, OFP can be sent to the aircraft by ACARS.
The engineer will prequel the aircraft to what figure?
8.2
5tonnes below OFP fuel
That precautions must be taking during refueling ops?
8.2.1
The following precautions apply during any fuelling operations:
Engine ignition system must be OFF.
The weather radar must be switched OFF.
Aircraft strobe light must be switched OFF.
Aircraft HF transmissions must not be made.
Smoking and the use of naked lights is forbidden.
In addition:
Two main deck door and one upper deck door will be made available in case of rapid egress. ML1 & 2, UL1
Establish communication with the Ground Engineer by a means that remains available during fuelling operations.
Inform cabin crew of the commencement and completion of fuelling operations, and indicate that fuelling operations have been completed by illuminating the Fasten Seat Belt sign.
Listen for a possible fire, or spillage warning from the Ground Engineer or cabin crew.
Be prepared to initiate passenger evacuation, if necessary.
If the presence of fuel vapour is detected or reported inside the aircraft or any other hazard arises, fuelling operations shall be stopped immediately.
What checks are you responsible for on completing of refueling?
The correct type, grade and quantity of fuel has been loaded;
The freeze point of the fuel loaded (or that of the resultant mixture) is satisfactory for the planned flight;
The aeroplane fuel quantity indicating system indicates that the tanks have been filled to the required levels;
Details of the fuel uplift have been correctly entered in the Technical Log;
A gross error check is carried out (see Section 8.2.1.8).
How do you determine the freezing point of the fuel?
8.2.1.4 Fuel Freezing Point Determination
If more than 90% of the final fuel is uplifted at departure aerodrome: Use actual measured value of the uplifted fuel, if available, otherwise, use -40°C for Jet A; -47°C for Jet A 1.
If less than 90% of the final fuel is uplifted at departure aerodrome, use -40°C as the fuel freezing point.
Can you refuel with one engine running on the A380?
Yes, follow procedures in:
8.2.1.6 Refuelling with One Engine Running
FCOM PROCEDURE SUPP
What is the fuel uplift check?
Actual Fuel Uplift is defined as the fuel uplift as measured by the fuel supplier.
Calculated Fuel Uplift is defined as the aircraft indicated fuel quantity after refuelling, minus the aircraft indicated fuel quantity before refuelling.
Actual Fuel Uplift shall match Calculated Fuel Uplift within the following tolerance?
Actual uplift more than calculated uplift:
5% of calculated uplift up to a maximum of 2,000 kg
Actual uplift less than calculated uplift:
5% of calculated uplift up to a maximum of 1,000 kg
Any discrepancy outside the above limits shall be investigated prior to departure and noted on the Voyage Report.
Is there limits prohibiting refueling with certain types of fuel with pax on board?
Yes
8.2.1
Wide cut fuels prohibit refueling with pax on board.
Kerosene fuels allow refueling with pax on board.
What reviews must take place when entering the aircraft?
8.2
On entering the aircraft, the crew shall:
Check the Technical Log.
Check validity of Aircraft Certificates.
Verify the Certificate of Maintenance.
Check Daily Inspection (or similar) are up to date and certified.
Check the ADD list for deferred or carried forward defects.
Check the refuelling status.
Who should you contact if you have an issue with an MEL etc?
8.2
MCC
TECH pilot
When should you arrive on board?
8.2Flight and cabin crew are required to be on board by no later than STD-55.
When arriving on board the aircraft, who must brief you on dispatch status?
8.2
The Ground Dispatcher, or at Outstations the Station Manager, shall brief the flight crew at approximately STD-55 of any possible irregularities with ground handling that may influence flight safety, the schedule, or the workload of the crew. The Commander shall brief the Dispatcher of any irregularities that may affect boarding or on-time departure. This briefing may be conducted at any convenient place, including the flight deck.
What are the policies for door closure and arming?
8.2.2
Closing and Arming of Doors
Whenever possible all doors should be closed at STD-3 (Ready to Go) in anticipation of either an immediate push back or a gate hold for an EOBT. This also gives operational flexibility should an earlier ATC become available. It is not necessary to wait for the receipt of an ATC Airways clearance to start engines or pushback.
The Purser shall request the Commander’s permission to close the last cabin door, either directly or via the interphone system. Permission is only required to close the last cabin door.
The Commander or First Officer shall advise the Purser: “Cleared to close doors”.
Once all doors and windows are closed and the area surrounding the aircraft is confirmed clear from all equipment, the Commander should advise the Purser to arm the slides as per the FCOM.
What are the policies for disarming and opening the doors?
8.2.2.1.3.2 Disarming and Opening Aeroplane Doors
After final turn on to the parking stand, the Pilot Monitoring (PM) will give the following command through the PA system; “Cabin crew prepare all doors and cross-check.” Cabin Crew will then disarm the doors and cross-check.
After engines have been shutdown, the following actions will be conducted:
BOTH pilots will crosscheck, to ensure all doors are indicated to be disarmed.
The Commander will then turn the Seat Belt Signs to OFF.
This will be the cue for the Purser to order the opening of cabin doors.
Cabin doors must not be opened until the Seat Belt Signs have been switched OFF.
Note:
For the A380 fleet ONLY, arming and disarming of cabin doors shall be conducted in accordance with the requirements of the FCOM.
Can flight crew open the cabin doors?
8.2.2.1.3.2.1 Opening of Cabin Doors
On passenger flights, two cabin crew members must be present when opening cabin doors during normal operations. One shall be the ‘operator’, the other will act as a ‘checker’.
Except in an emergency or in the absence of a cabin crew, flight crew members are not authorised to operate the doors whilst on board the aircraft or act as a ‘checker’.
Are pax allowed on the aircraft without crew?
8.2.2
Flight and cabin crew shall be on board whenever passengers are embarking, on board, or disembarking. One member of flight crew is sufficient to meet this requirement.
Prior to door closure how would you deal with a medical passenger issue?
8.2.2.2.1 Medical Cases
The Commander may refuse to accept an invalid or incapacitated passenger, whether or not travel has been medically cleared, if he believes the passenger:
Is likely to be placed at risk by the journey;
Constitutes a flight safety hazard;
Might cause inconvenience or discomfort to others.
When making on load/offload decisions for passengers with medical needs, various support options exist to enable the Commander to make an informed choice. If any doubt exists, pilots should seek help or clarification from medical services or a doctor as follows:
MedLink.
Aerodrome Medical Clinic.
An Emirates doctor, contactable through the Network Operations.
Where would you find detail and policies for the handling of PRMs - pax with reduced mobility
8.2.2.2.2 Disabled Passengers/Persons of Reduced Mobility (PRM)
Caution to note differences for US from NON US operations
