Radio conversation BREIF/CONCISE…
All necessary repetition and pleasantries should be avoided ….lengthy messages should be transmitted by telephone
Numbers..including identities of units, alarm boxes, street locations, Dept. automobiles shall be transmitted ?

example: CAR one-oh, three one-oh
LAdder 9 is relocated/ Ladder 9 acting ladder 3
Signal 10-45 SHALL NOT BE USED to indicate fatality/injury to ON DUTY MEMBERS..
- initial notification made to Dispatcher/MIXER OFF
- NOT include name and unit number of member
“K” means?
end of message, reply is necessary, go ahead and transmit
- press handset when transmitting
- release after each transmission to receive acknowledgement
-call considered terminated when dispatcher concludes with “Dispatcher Number 000, Time 000”
In the event FIRST CALL is NOT ACKNOWLEDGED, within 30 SECONDS, PRESS HANDSET button and repeat call, DO NOT attempt more than 3 calls to Dispatcher.
If 3rd call is not acknowledged (wait 30 seconds, between each), assume radio is INOPERATIVE and transmit from another mobile unit
- 3 attempts (30 seconds in between) from that mobile unit, no answer(or indications of dead air in that borough)- switch to CITYWIDE AND ADVISE DISPATCHER of problem
- If unable to communicate Citywide, contact DISPATCHER via TELEPHONE
HT/Cell Phones shall not be used within?
150 feet of VEHICLES transporting explosives, explosive magazines, or areas where blasting operations are in progress
Apparatus, Post, Marine- 300 FEET
HT’S shall NOT be operated in building where Police are searching for explosive device
Apparatus Stuck button?
60 seconds
Signal 10-45 will appropriate sub code shall be transmitted in lieu of signal 10-37 for THERMAL BURN INJURIES which occur as a direct result of HEAT from a flame
BC response SHOULD BE REQUESTED
-doubt exist as to which signal to transmit, have BC respond
10-80 no code…
Haz Mat BATT and Haz Mat 1 can be contacted via dispatcher, 800 MHZ or cell phone of technical information , if necessary
-HBO1 or HM01 may be requested to respond to the incident if necessary
Urgent Messages over Apparatus Radio..:
- 2nd or greater alarms
- calls for additional companies, ambulances, special units or “10-75”
- Report of Apparatus breakdown, while responding
- REport that unit has stopped to extinguish fire while responding to another alarm
- Signal 10-70 (urgent on HT as well)
“E-33 to manhattan, Urgent K”
When relocating to quarters of another unit, Officers shall notify Borough Dispatcher of the following:
A. when in response district of unit they are covering
B. returning to their own quarters
C. when back in their own response district
Units leaving for NON-EMERGENCY RESPONSE….
shall NOT USE 10-8
-confirm status with radio dispatcher
Officers of land units are NOT required to submit a preliminary report when special called to an automobile , grass, rubbish, or similar outside fire..
usually preliminary would be 5 minutes from 10-84
Units has a defective or non-operating radio, OFFICER ON DUTY shall notify ?
BATTALION and DIVISION
-in addition , call dispatcher requesting RADIO MECHANIC for repairs
DIVISION will supply affected unit with PORTABLE CITYWIDE RADIO CAPABLE of direct communication with ALLL BOROUGH DISPATCHERS…..once received , officer shall?
PERFORM 10-11 RADIO TEST COUNT from their respective borough dispatcher
-citywide apparatus portable radio SHOULD REMAIN IN FRONT CAN AND SHOULD NOT BE WORN BY OFFICER
