If first arriving BC is delayed and 2nd engine has already ASCENDED to upper floors, the following will take place?
Battalion shall give post radio to the FD member OPERATING the fireman service elevator….upon arrival 2 floors below the fire floor, ELEVATOR OPERATOR will contact the SECOND ENGINE OFFICER …the second arriving engine officer shall ensure that the post radio is obtained from the member operating the elevators (does not specify that the officer has to retrieve it from elevator operator….just that the OFFICER ENSURE IT’S OBTAINED)
Simplex HT channels are?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,13,16
-HT message transmitted….received by another HT

2014 FIRE CODE for ARCS system in NEWLY constructed HI RISE buildings?
- coverage at least 97% of building
- all CRITICAL areas covered, e.g. subways, basements, standpipe outlets, elevator lobby
- FULL FUNCTIONAL TEST every 5 years
- noTIFY FDNY EXTENDED OR SERIOUS OUTAGES
-building must do daily visual inspection and yearly evaluation by installer
Duplex HT channels are?
11, 12, 14, 15…
- transmit on a frequency, but receive a signal back on a DIFFERENT FREQUENCY …only possible when used in conjunction with UHF repeater system
- duplex DOES NOT support multiple transmissions..transmission close to antennae/cable may override transmission from a distance…also, transmissions given at the same time may cancel each other out
ARCS?
AUXILIARY RADIO COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM
1st arriving LADDER COMPANY(ARCS)…
- activate Building ARCS (1620 key or ON/OFF SWITCH at FIRE COMMAND STATION
- INSTRUCT MEMBER to staff ICP, monitor tactical and /or repeater channel/relay messages
- OFFICE will remain on CHANNEL 1 or switch his HT to building duplex UHF radio repeater channel (channel 11/12) or acquire in house radio for investigation team, as appropriate
- OFFICER ENSURE a FUNCTIONAL TEST is performed PRIOR to leaving LOBBY
- NOTIFY DISPATCH for re-transmittal to all incoming units if in house radios or Channel 11 and 12 HAVE BEEN ACTIVATED AS COMMAND CHANNEL
- officer and remaining members will proceed to the location of the reported incident
- Upon arrival of 2nd arriving BC to Command Post, ALL MEMBERS OF 1ST LADDER return to HT-1
Duplex Radio Repeater will NOT support multiple transmissions
A member transmitting close to antennae/cable may override a transmission given by another member who is further away
multiple transmissions given at the same time may cancel out all transmissions
REPEATER systems fail without warning
NO AUDIBLE ON HT / NO VISUAL WARNING IN LOBBY

do NOT operate on FDNY frequencies…must use in house radios
-radios stored on site, NO REQUIREMENTS FOR STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE…CAN BE STORED ANYWHERE

TRANSMISSIONS FROM PROPRIETARY RADIOS WILL NOT APPEAR ON EFAS

PROPRIETARY radios used for INITIAL INVESTIGATION (unlike building repeater)
POST RADIO will be primary link on command channel / PROPRIETARY is back up
(building 11/12 is OPPOSITE/ POST IS BACK UP)

- have MEMBER staff Command POST and monitor channel on PROPRIETARY HT
- OFFICER or FF carry proprietary radio
- FUNCTIONAL TEST PRIOR TO LEAVING LOBBY
- NOITFY DISPATCH FOR RE-TRANSMITTAL to incoming units proprietary repeater activated
–UPON arrival of 2nd due BC , all members of 1st ladder will return to HT-1
Subway repeater ?
channel 14 and channel 15…NYC Transit duplex radio repeater system is ALWAYS ON
- IC can test repeater system
- All FDNY members remain on HT 1, EXCEPT those designated to switch to repeater channel
MEMBER OPERATING ON REPEATER MUST BE TEAMED UP WITH MEMBER ON CHANNEL 1
IN BUILDING REPEATER CHANNEL 11 AND CHANNEL 12
–communicate using panel via H/T, PUSH TO TALK , OR HANDSET
- CONSOLE for ARC system will be ADJACENT OR IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF FIRE COMMAND STATION
- LABELED CHANNEL 11 AND CHANNEL 12
- ACTIVATE WITH 1620 KEY and ROTATE CLOCKWISE , KEY IS NOT REMOVABLE , YOU WILL NEED 2 KEYS TO ACTIVATE CHANNEL 11 AND CHANNEL 12…some keys labeled ON or ACTIVE —VISUAL INDICATION SYSTEM IS ON
PRIMARY BUILDING REPEATER IS CHANNEL 11 (subway is channel 14)
-THE TWO CHANNELS/SYSTEMS OPERATE INDEPENDENTLY
non removable key, unlike elevator fireman service
INCIDENT COMMANDER will determine who operates on REPEATER (same as subway)
repeaters cannot support multiple messages
ANY MEMBER OPERATING ON REPEATER CHANNEL MUST BE TEAMED UP WITH MEMBER OPERATING ON TACTICAL CHANNEL(subway reads “ HT-1”)……but in High Rise (could be HT-1 or HT-2)
