Successful rebellion against British rule that established the United States.Conducted by the European settlers in the colonies of British North America, starting in 1716
American Revolution
A charter of political liberties drawn up by the French National Assembly that proclaimed equal rights of all male citizens. It gave expression to the essential outlook of the French Revolution.
Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen
A massive upheaval of French society that overthrew the monarchy, ended legal privileges of the nobility, and for a time outlawed the Catholic Church.
French Revolution
Leader of the French Revolution during the Terror, responsible for the execution of tens of thousands of enemies of the revolution. He was arrested and guillotined.
Robespierre
He established a military dictatorship in France and spread revolutionary ideals throughout Europe.
Napoleon Bonaparte
The only fully successful slave rebellion in world history, leading to the establishment of an independent state in Saint-Domingue (Haiti).
Haitian Revolution
A series of risings in Spanish and Portuguese colonies that established independence from European rule but retained privileges for elites.
Latin American Revolutions
Leaders of the Mexican War of Independence that began in 1810.
Hidalgo-Morelos Rebellion
Leader of a Native American rebellion in Peru in the early 1780s, claiming descent from the last Inca emperor.
Tupac Amaru
A slave rebellion in the British West Indies inspired by the Haitian Revolution, where around 60,000 slaves attacked plantations.
Great Jamaica Revolt
Internal movement that condemned slavery as morally repugnant and contributed much to ending slavery in the western world in the 19th century

Written by Mary Wolsteincraft one of the earliest espressions of feminist consciousness
Vindication Of The Rights Of Women
Leading figure of the earliest women’s rights movement in the US; drafted a statement paraphrasing the Declaration Of Independence stating women and men were created equal
Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Movement that claimed that women have value in society not because of an abstract idea of equality but because women have a distinctive and vital role as mothers

Focusing on citizens loyalty on the notion that they are part of a nation with a unique culture, territory, and common experience
